Hostage Poster - Final

This is the first draft of my film poster. To begin with, I used the program Adobe Spark to make this poster. I used the default fonts for all of the text but varied the type of font so it wouldn't look bland. The overall theme I initially intended for this poster was to be dark and thought-provoking. To create this effect on the audience I used dark, matte red and pasty white as the colour scheme, as these are the main colours that I am using for the magazine cover, and the trailer uses the same colour scheme for the credits. It is important for me to keep using these colours and font as a stylistic choice throughout the films promotional media because all films have a 'House Style' that reflects the film's genre and gives the film's media a familiar look throughout, this is a good way of getting the audience to subconsciously remember the style of the film when viewing its promotional media.

Media Mood Board

Why I chose these covers for my mood board:
The point of creating mood board is to get a general idea of what conventions and themes the magazines follow, and this also helps with inspiration for my own end product, the magazine cover and poster.

The two magazine companies featured in the mood board are Total Film and Empire. I chose covers from these publishers because they are the best example of how film covers should look, especially in the thriller genre. The target audience for Total Film and Empire are 19-30 years old. This is importa nt to me becuase it is a similar target audience to our trailer.

Choosing a Cast

Choosing a Cast

To create a film that will attract our target audience, casting the right people for specific characters is very important. The main USP (Unique Selling Point) of the film will be the cast and the director. We have selected a range of actors and actresses that we think will best suit the characters in the film.

Image result
Ansel Elgort - We have chosen Ansel Elgort to play the character of *protagonistname*. Acknowledging the other character roles he has played in past films, he has developed a persona of a young hero - this is exactly what we are looking for in the protagonist of Hostage.

Image result for jesse eisenbergJesse Eisenberg - Jesse has starred in many action/adventure/thrillers. While he hasn't necessarily played as the antagonist for many films, his role as the villain Lex Luthor in Batman vs Superman proved to be popular among young adults.

Photos for Poster

For these photo's I took inspiration from other thriller posters and covers and followed along the conventions of those to help decide the best angles and shots to use. Lighting was also a key factor that I considered. I used an LED camera light and turned the colour temperature to a harsh blue, with high brightness. This created hard-light, which is used to create an effect of danger and to create more contrast in shadows, which is useful in creating a menacing look in shots with the main antagonist.
